The P-946 Corrosion Control Hangar, located in Hawaii and built for the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps, is a state-of-the-art, 29,408-square-foot facility, built in 26 months and completed in December 2022.
The hangar includes a refitting and rebuilding area for the maintenance, repair, paint preparation and painting of H-1, H-60, CH-53 and MV22 series aircraft. The facility has one bay for aircraft depaint operations and an adjacent paint bay for the application of new coatings.
A New Facility in Need of a Tough Dust Collection Solution
As a new build, the P-946 Corrosion Control Hangar required a tough dust collection solution that could be installed quickly for immediate use with a blasting booth application. In addition to the need for a quick installation, it was essential that the dust collection solution would be reliable and able to function efficiently from day one and for many years to come.
The project contractor, Hensel Phelps, contacted an A.C.T. Dust Collectors dealer seeking a dust collection system that would be a good fit for a blasting booth at this large military facility. By partnering with A.C.T., Hensel Phelps was able to find a dust collection solution that would be vital for the ongoing maintenance and repair of military aircraft in the facility.
A Heavy-Duty Dust Collector for a Large Blasting Boot
As a facility providing the maintenance, repair, and painting of military aircraft, it was critical that the dust collection system have a quick installation and be equipped to handle a large blasting booth.
The right dust collector would also ensure a safe and clean working environment for military personnel by preventing dust particles from lingering in the facility. Finally, a dust collection system would ensure the continued smooth operation of the facility, keeping areas free of dust that could interfere with the maintenance, repair, and painting of aircraft.
Working with Hensel Phelps, the A.C.T. dealer was tasked with providing a heavy-duty dust collector with a single-point screw conveyor outlet and extended-height support steel that would fit a large blast booth installation. This project also required the delivery and installation of the dust collection system in a remote area.
A.C.T. Delivers a Dust Collection System
A.C.T. delivered a multi-module cartridge dust collection system customized to maximize operational time and filter life, which allows the facility’s blasting booth to be used to its fullest capacity.
While the client considered other options, ultimately A.C.T. was able to offer a customized dust collection solution while staying within the client’s budget. Hensel Phelps and the hangar facility personnel were pleased with the final product, including the loading, shipping, and installation of the dust collection solution.
